A CEL OBERT

Historical centre of Tortosa, a treasure to discover

A Cel Obert is an excellent opportunity to rediscover the historical and artistic significance of the historical centre of Tortosa. Within a very small radius, there are modernist, gothic, renaissance and baroque buildings, reflecting the sensitivity of the city through its changing architecture over time.

Many of these buildings have an interior architecture that is as important as the exterior, although it often goes unnoticed. That is the case of many courtyards, which thanks to the A Cel Obert festival of ephemeral interventions can now become a great attraction to be discovered.

THE FESTIVAL

The Tortosa ephemeral interventions festival is a festival where ephemeral art aims to turn unknown historical spaces into a stage for artistic creations, as well as to reclaim architectural heritage and introduce and disseminate ephemeral art to the public.

THE SPACES

A culture and tourism proposal that opens the doors of Tortosa’s courtyards and cloisters to the public, many of which are closed to the public during the rest of the year. A Cel Obert is a great opportunity to discover this art-filled heritage through guided tours that explain in detail the history of the spaces and the facilities they house.

THE COMPETITION

The competition gives artists from around the world the opportunity to work in one of the historical parts of the city, chosen in advance. Cloisters, courtyards, passageways… interior architectural spaces that often go unnoticed become a great attraction for those who are unaware of their existence.

THE RESEARCH

Dissemination and preservation of architectural heritage. A Cel Obert documents each space, creating an archive of photographs and mapping their layout in order to record their condition.

THE SCHOOLS

Creation of a collaborative work with the participation of local schools in order to introduce young people to ephemeral art and teach them about more contemporary art.

THE AWARDS

Award ceremony: judges’ award, public vote and children’s vote. Three awards acknowledging a job well done for the works that have the greatest impact, technical and/or aesthetic quality.

THE PARTY

A place for artists, professionals and the general public to meet. An opportunity to share experiences, points of view and to interact around art.

A CEL COBERT

A growing branch of A Cel Obert that seeks to interweave contemporary works with classic indoor spaces to discover new settings and delve into different disciplines.
