PLASTIC MARBLES

Plastic Marbles is a site-specific installation, marrying the reuse of plastic textile spools with folkloristic traditions. It uses the spool as a symbol of local manufacturing culture and single-use objects, transforming them into a medium for creative expression.

Set in the context of Calvari’s religious traditions, the installation draws inspirations from large-scale displays of light and colour, such as infiorate (flower carpet festivals in Italy) and luminarie (light festivals), capturing their desire to reshape space and while reflecting the hopes and struggles of the community. Also inspired by the careful use of colour and light in the rose windows of gothic cathedrals, the installation repurposes factory waste to create big marbles with ordered and chaotic motifs, crafting the illusion of endless transformation from finite elements.
