Events Room in the Casa Bau, Headquarters of the Demarcació de l’Ebre Group (COAC)

Designed by architect Josep Plantada, Casa Bau is a Modernist building that was built between 1912 and 1915. Its construction was paid for by Josep Bau, a renowned business owner in the olive oil industry.

The main façade on Carrer Ramon Berenguer IV is arranged around an axis of central symmetry. On the ground floor, the gallery of arches on small columns and the decoration of naturalist vegetation stand out. On the first floor, by contrast, we find a tribune with pinnacles and stone gargoyles.

The house has notable wrought iron decoration on the doors, windows and balconies as well as rigorous and detailed wood elements on the openings. Inside, visitors can admire the richness of the woodwork and the stucco decorations on the ceilings. The main salon is a diaphanous, orthogonal space and features a semi-circular glazed gallery that gives the outside façade its shape.

Since 2000, the building has been home to the Demarcació de l’Ebre Group, part of the COAC (the Catalan Guild of Architects).
