MURAL DEL PATI DEL PALAU CAPMANY

The imposing Palau Capmany has overlooked Carrer de la Rosa in Tortosa since the 17^th century. The Baroque building has a central patio boasting splendid and exuberant elements yet it is hidden from view and inaccessible to the city’s inhabitants. The A Cel Obert festival has made innumerable, and thus far unsuccessful attempts, to open the doors to this gem.

As such, there is little chance of being able to enjoy its open vestibule, which culminates in a basket-handle arch, or the base made with glazed tiles that create geometric shapes and contain floral motifs, the carefully crafted doors, windows and balconies, the central fountain or the radiant dais, which contains clearly Modernist elements.

Likewise, this year we have a taste of the patio in Palau Capmany at the warehouse of the former Olis Bau factory. A mural has been created that represents a part of this space through a collaborative collage created by pupils from the INS Les Planes Secondary School.
